A variety of seminars, workshops and staff trainings are available. You can choose from the sampling in the list below or we can tailor one to meet your needs. All the seminars deal with aging issues faced by families, caregivers and professionals. 

The dementia dramas (skits) we use in our presentations come from actual situations our staff has encountered while working with caregivers, or from the presenters personal experience. The seminars are entertaining as well as informative.

"Loving Miss Lily" Dementia Communication Techniques - Our signature seminar, this two-hour presentation introduces Miss Lily, an 85-year-old woman who has moderate to severe dementia. With Miss Lily’s help, the speaker demonstrates the healthcare professional and the caregiver's roles focusing on the communication techniques and reducing catastrophic events for the person with memory impairment. Practical Techniques are demonstrated through our humorous dementia dramas. A quick review of the different types of dementia, including Alzheimer’s, is included. At the conclusion the participant should be able to:

1. Have a working knowlege of dementia

2. Be familiar with communication techniq2ues to reduce catastrophic events for the dementia patient.

"It's Not Always Alzheimer's" Alzheimer's disease accounts for approximately 50% of dementia disease, so what accounts for the other 50%? This seminar will increase awareness of some of the other dementia diseases with an emphasis on the 2nd most common dementia disease, Lewy Body Disease (LBD). Other dementia diseases  like Frontotemporal, will be touched on as well. Miss Lily assists in this presentation showing practical examples of different behaviors discussed with each disease.

"Dementia 411"- Over 80 different diseases produce dementia symptoms; Alzheimer's Disease is just one of them. The 10 warning signs of dementia are reviewed in this presentation along with an introduction and explanation of the most common types and reasons for dementia. For those wanting a longer presentation, Miss Lily can be introduced to review basic "dos and don'ts" of dementia communication. Length 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending upon time requested.


"Forgetfulness: Should I Worry" - A slower speed of mental processing along with forgetfulness is normal as one ages. But how bad does it need to get before we should worry about it? This presentation reviews normal memory loss, mild cognitive impairment, dementia, Alzheimer's disease and other memory diseases. With the help of Miss Lily, the 10 warning signs of dementia are reviewed. Length 1 hour.

"Dealing with Guilt & Grief"- Guilt, grief and regret are common feelings of caregivers. This presentation reviews the definition of each of these terms and allows the audience to participate in sharing their feelings. Ways of dealing with each of these emotions and moving oneself forward to a happier self are reviewed. Length: 45 minutes, but is dependent upon the amount of time given to discussion.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers"- This 6 week course is designed to help the caregiver... *Manage the common stresses associated with caring for a relative or friend with a chronic medical condition. *Design effective action-planning tools and time management as a caregiver. *Find resources. *Cope with emotions such as guilt & depression. The course comes with a Caregiver Handbook. Classes are being formed, so call 877-923-3890 or email your information to be on a waiting list. Minimum class size is 8 with a maximum of 15.

"Strokes and Vascular Dementia 411"- This is an introductory presentation to strokes and vascular dementia. Focus is on information and how to recognize the symptoms of a stroke. How 80% of stokes can be avoided. What to do after a stroke. How stokes relate to vascular dementia. If requested, Miss Lily can appear to give some examples of vascular dementia behavior and demonstrate some warning symptoms. Length 1 hour.  

"Demenita: Keep Them Busy"- Various activities for a caregiver to do with someone who has dementia. Memory boxes, collage art, activity boxes as well as "101 things to do" will be explored. Length 1 hour.


"The Long Term Care Decision"
- When is it time to place a parent or a spouse in a nursing home? Or would they qualify for an assisted or supportive living facility? What's the difference between all these places? What are the "Five Red Flags" for nursing home placement? How do I pay for all this care? Does Medicare pay for it? These plus many more questions are answered for family members who must consider this "tough love" decision. Length 45 min.

"Alone, Now What?" - It is very difficult to lose a spouse, whether it's because of nursing home placement or death. It is also very difficult to lose a parent or someone you have been close to for many years. How do you cope? What is normal? Are you suffering grief, guilt,loss, anger, or another emotion? This presentation covers a review of the many emotions a family member experiences when faced with a major loss. Then , participants are given guidelines on what to expect,how to handle "those other people," and how to deal with the loss and being alone. Length: 1 hour
